Fishing Lines What To Know Before You Buy One

Fishing line is a cord made of a nylon material that you attached to your reel. They come in different lengths and thicknesses, and are rated for strength and weight by the pound. That is it - you have my personal definition of what a fishing line is. Now, if you are new to fishing, you will more than likely purchase a rod and reel combo. That's fine - I did the same thing! I had no knowledge about fishing gear back in the day. I wanted to go fishing, so I went out to my local store and purchased a rod/reel combo, tackle box, hooks, lures, and I went fishing.

If you are new to fishing, that's all you really need. When you buy a rod and reel combo it will do the job for you, no matter your experience level. The lines vary in strength depending on what you are fishing for. If you are just going to your local lake or even going out on a boat to catch some bass, for example, you would be fine with a combo. Just remember, a line can stretch to its breaking point only so many times before it may actually break, just like a rod will bend if you catch something large and weighty that puts up a good fight. Or your line simply can get caught on something that can cause it to break, like in-between rocks. A good reel makes all the difference in the world when bringing in your catch. In my opinion, a 6-pound or more line is all you need if you are a novice fisherman. However, if you want to be an angler, you want to be on the light side with your gear.

There are several types of fishing lines on the market today. Don't worry about which brand to get - they are all good. You have your p-line, sufix, maxima, trilene, eagleclaw, and ande, just to name a few. When you determine what you will be fishing for and where, then you'll need to know more about lines. Fish can see your line if it is big in diameter, for example, and the fish may even nibble on it. So if you are fishing in clear water, you want your line to be small in diameter. If you are out in murky water they may not see your line; just the bait or lure. That's about all you need to know on fishing lines. I hope you find this article helpful. Happy Fishing!
